Monroe County Boy Scout Canoe Clean-Up 2006
On Saturday, September 9th the Monroe County Boy Scouts
partnered with the County Parks Commission and held their 4th annual canoe
clean-up. The group of 35 Boy Scouts successfully removed 9 canoes full of
trash from the River Raisin. The boys had a great time removing items such
as a commercial grade air conditioner, an iron, and more common items
including traffic barrels, bottles, cans, metal pipes, electronics,
furniture, cushions, tires, auto parts, and bikes. Although they got dirty
in the process, one Boy Scout exclaimed that this was the best canoe trip
ever. The Scouts should be commended for their participation in this
clean-up event and their willingness to devote time to such an important
cause. They will be looking for other environmentally minded projects in the
future.
