RRWC, Michigan319 Watershed Planning GrantThe Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has awarded the RRWC $277,084 to develop a watershed management plan for the entire basin that meets the nine Environmental Protection Agency elements. The MDEQ announced in late October that it had awarded grants for 2006 totaling nearly $2.8 million to protect Michigan’s lakes and streams and help local communities better manage their land resources. The process was highly competitive, with 55 grant applications being submitted from agencies across Michigan. The RRWC was one of only three grants that were fully funded. “Partnership is the key to protecting Michigan’s resources, and these grants are a key part of that effort, “ said DEQ Director Steven E. Chester. “By ensuring our water resources stay clean and healthy, we are ultimately ensuring Michigan’s prosperity for years to come.” The River Raisin Watershed Council is honored to partner with our 43 municipal members on this project as well as the University of Michigan, Dr. J. David Allan, The Nature Conservancy, Raisin Valley Land Trust, Lenawee Conservation District, Jackson Community College, Washtenaw County Drain Commission, Monroe County Drain Commission, Dan Stefanski, Stantec, and JFNew. The RRWC is thrilled to have this opportunity and would like to express our sincere appreciation and thanks for all of the support, work and contributions from each of our members and supporters. The RRWC would like to extend a special thank you to Janna Sebald, Environmental Quality Analyst for the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. Her support, knowledge, commitment and guidance during the grant process were invaluable, and the RRWC is extremely grateful and appreciative of her efforts. on Aug. 20, 2008 8:02 am
